Flower Crown

When I got into the car today after school my mom had a package for me in my seat. It was a flower crown and a top I had ordered a while ago. My first flower crown! I have been wanting one for a very long time and I found the one I wanted. A lot of crowns are so big they take over your head or so small you can’t even tell that they are flowers. This one is perfect! The flowers are beautiful even if they are fake. The flowers are one a brown cord which can be adjusted to the right length so it is very comfortable! Another good thing was that it was only $5- very hipster. If I get the chance to go to a music festival this summer I plan on wearing it. To bad Caochella is in Cali. I have a royal blue high to low skirt and a “wild spirit” graphic tank top with feathers on it that will be cute with my flower crown.

Summer Style

Summer Style

Summer style is the best style! Crop tops, tribal prints, shorts, wavy hair, and music festivals- the styles are endless. I can not wait till summer!
I’m predicting that beach styles will be the big thing this summer. At my job they promoted me to head lifeguard and swim team coach so unfortunately I will be wearing a uniform most of the time so I will be taking every chance to dress down. My favorite outfit is in the picture with crop top and lace shorts. For our family vacation we always go to Florida so these will definitely be in my suitcase.
I really want to go to a music festival this summer! What are the best music festivals to go to? Are there any in Florida during June?
Cody Simpson “Surfboard” is definitely going to be my summer anthem. I love the beat of the song as well as the lyrics. Going to Cali is on my bucket list before college.
What are some music tunes you will have on repeat?

2048

Challenge

2048

This game has literally taken over my life. Just like flappy bird this game is addicting. The goal of the game is to get a tile that is the number 2048. It is kind of like a matching game because you are trying to match multiples of two.
Ex. 2’s match, 4 ‘s match, 8’s match, 16’s match, etc.
This is actually hard because the space can easily fill up with no matches close by.
Tip: apparently if you only swipe matches down then you will get to 2048. The biggest tile number I have gotten to is 256, so clearly I have a ways away to go!:)

Disney Short Film: Paperman

Disney Short Film: Paperman

This has got to be one of the cutest Disney “film” ever. I am not normally Disney-crazy but this film has the power to do so!
It begins with a young man standing on the train loading station waiting for his train to come. A paper flies onto his face and a young woman runs by chasing it. She catches it and comes to stand next to the man. His name is George and hers is Meg. A paper escapes from his folder that he is holding and flies into her face. When he pulls it away there is a lipstick mark on the paper. She leaves on the train and watches as the train pulls away.
We then see him sitting in his office doing paper work. He looks out the office window and finds the woman in the building across the street. George takes his paper work and and makes them into paper planes. The planes fail to make it to her. She leaves her building and he chases after her. He can not find her so the paper planes seem to come alive. They try to pull the young man to the woman. The paper with the lipstick mark finds her and leads her toward the man. Both get on trains and meet at the crossing. In the credits you see them sitting in a dinner with the paper between them.
I love this short film because it isn’t to cheesy. It combines 1950’s feel with modern animation. I love the concept of paper planes bringing them together. If only this happened in real life.<3

Light In Darkness

Light In Darkness

“It’s better to light a candle than to cures the darkness.” Eleanor Roosevelt

Recently we had a tragedy at my school that has caused a great sadness. The brother of one of my friends committed suicide on March 25, 2014. We were told the next day at school grade by grade. This has caused me to become very sad, even though I barely knew him. What people don’t realize is that our decisions that are made on impulse have the power to hurt those around us. We can sit around and wonder why he did it but we will never know.
The point of this post is not to sadden you or to be mad. It is to remember the memory of Juan Harvey.
I remember his sister sitting next to me at our Sweetheart dance and him walking up to her with his friend. He asked her if she would take him to a party and she said “I don’t want to go to a white party!” as he walked away mad.
This memory makes me laugh every time I think about it. She was in no way being racist but the way she said it made me laugh.
This event has had a great impact on me. When I get older I want to help others. I want to save others. This bracelet reminds me to see the light in the darkness.
RIP Juan Harvey

Lost And Found

There is a disease that has been spreading among young people since the 20th century. It’s called The Social Status disease. This problem occurs mainly among teen girls but it also affects teen boys and is even spreading to Tweens.
WARNING: This disease can kill.
Not only does it kill confidence, pride, and self worth, it also can kill-literally.

Over the weekend I became sick and was stuck at home. I literally can not just lay around. I have to be doing something creative. I receive Teen Vogue every month and as I was reading it I began to look at it in detail. I observed the advertisements. Looking through them I realized that a lot of the magazine was about things that put girls natural beauty down. Even those advertisements that promote “natural beauty” have a hidden message of selling a makeup product.
That is just not right. Don’t get me wrong, I love this magazine. I love smelling the perfume advertisements, looking at the mixed matched clothes, and learning about the things celebs do.
We all feel the need to buy into this Social disease. We as teens feel the need and pressure to be what society wants us to be.
We need to stop trying to be perfect. It is impossible. You can only have a few qualities that society thinks is perfect. I don’t want to be perfect. I want to be me.
I want to be kind, compassionate, caring, loving, giving, a friend, a shoulder to cry on, a good daughter, a good student, a hard working person. Me. This is who I want to be.
We should spend more time being ourself than spending time trying to be a person that we will never be. That is a lost person. It’s time we find who we are.
I am average, but I would rather be a happy average then an unhappy perfect.

Trend Setters

Art, Celebrity, Culture, Fashion, Thoughts

imageTrend Setters

The internet is filled with a vast amount of pictures and illustrations everywhere you turn. I came across a website that had illustrations that I thought were very cool. These two pictures have a very 60’s feel to them. Twiggy would have rocked those bottle cap glasses very well. I receive Teen Vogue monthly and I think it would be cool if this front of the issue was a sketch and not a picture of some celeberty. Celebrities are always considered the trend setters of the fashion world but I think it would be cool if the magazines used design sketches by fashion designers.
I consider my sense of style to be bohemian/60’s themed mixed with what we consider “hipster”. I adore over sized tye-dyed t-shirts, tribal patterns, long flowy skirts, daisy patterns, and tons of friendship bracelets. The illustration with the blue jacket is something I would wear to Coachella.
I am also considered a modern feminest. I believe women can do anything and that we should do more to improve the world. I believe that there are many empowered women of our time but that we should not stop that trend of empowerment.
I also believe that we are equal with men. We are neither above or bellow men. Period. (No pun intended?)
Any way (sorry for that tangent), I feel that normal, everyday people should set the trends of fashion because we are the people who wear them everyday. Meat dresses, foam hands, and grills should not be considered trendy. I see no one walking walking around in these items. These are Halloween costumes.
We all have a style that we wear whether to work, school, date, running arrands. We should wear what defines us. What shapes us as a person. These clothes can make us or break us.

Helping Others To Help Yourself

Helping Others To Help Yourself

It’s has been done before. The same types of blog posts about helping others around the world or in your own community. I want this one to be different.
“The best way you find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”- Gandhi
Today in my Environmental Science AP class we talked about hunger and Genetically Modified Crops. Our teacher showed us a TED Talk video about ending hunger. This video spoke a lot to me because of the progress of the world as well as the lack of progress. I believe in helping everyone who is in need. A lot of teens feel the same but unfortunately we are to young and inexperienced to anything- or so every adult says. When I was younger my parents were discussing something about how a person who had committed a crime should be dealt with. I said that it wasn’t up to us to administer punishment and mercy. My father then returned with “You haven’t been in the world to see enough of it”.
Is that true? I don’t think so. I have seen a lot in the world already. Mercy, compassion, caring, giving, love. There are people out there in this world that all they seen in people are those qualities and have those qualities themselves. It is lovely to see people show these qualities.
When I get older I want to travel to other countries to share these qualities with people. Everyone needs love and compassion.
I am a Lifeguard. There is a certain level of help that we bestow on people through our job. I want to show this help to other people in need.
So I leave you with something to remember. How will you make your mark on the world?

My Prom Dress Design

My Prom Dress Design

As some of you may or may not know I would like to be a fashion designer/ photographer one day. I have a few sketchbooks filled with designs and I have a few design books as well. I have been into art since I was a little girl but it wasn’t till the 8th until I realized I wanted to go into fashion. I know a lot of people stereotype people who like this area of art- and so did I. But the older I got the more I loved it.
I like the art of design.
Not throwing on a crop top and booty shorts. That is not fashion to me. Fashion to me is taking an item of clothing and turning it into art.
Anyone can throw on clothes and call it fashion. It takes a real artist to take THAT fashion to a whole new level. I appreciate a design house like Chanel or Alexander McQueen or even those tiny, unknown designers that no one knows about because they take clothes to the next level. As much as I love some of Miley Cyrus’ s music and her wanting to be her own person besides Disney mania, I don’t like her clothes. I still think women should dress like women. No woman wants to see another woman half naked. Seriously.

The dress in the picture on the doll is the replica of the drawing of the dress. This was my first attempt to make an example of one of my ideas. I love the fabrics coming together to form a fan shape on the middle of the stomach because it is an added decoration that pulls the dress together. The gold leaf-like material reminds me of the crowns that Romans wore a long time ago. I think this dress would make a girl like a goddess in it. The white satin material complements the pearls as well as the gold because it isn’t stark white.
I really love this project that I did as well as designing the dress. (I have scribbles all over the paper just like any other artist, even if you can’t see them. Lol)
So ladies, from a 16 year old who doesn’t dress like Miley, please cover up.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day
